THE NEW NORMAL
As we move into this new ‘normal’ it would be easy to fall prey to worry and fear of what the future holds. Yet we are not given spirits of fear but rather spirits of power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
And so, it is with deep gratitude that we share this update with you of how your prayers and love and continued financial support are allowing us to focus on the health of the children and care takers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
COVID-19 IMPACT ON CASA HOGAR ELIM
The government has begun putting precautions in place, such as closing the schools for the foreseeable future and possibly closing the border. Having all the children home every day is putting a significant strain on the food supply for Casa Hogar Elim. Lunches were served at school and that now falls back on the orphanage to supply an extra meal for 60+ children each day.
Because Casa Hogar Elim is a private Christian orphanage, they do not receive funds from the government and are dependent on donations for their daily needs.
HOW WE ARE RESPONDING
Because of your generosity and care for these children, we are able to respond to this need in the following ways.
-Our daily healthy snacks program will be expanded to include Saturday and Sunday and will continue as long as food is available
-We are purchasing bulk beans, rice and pasta to help provide for lunch
-We are providing multivitamins and extra vitamin C
-We continue to focus on the garden as it can provide fresh vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, jalapenos and zucchini) though this is still 4-6 weeks away from producing results
-we are also reaching out to teachers to schedule online classes so that the children continue to progress in math and reading during the school closures.
YOU FUEL OUR EFFORTS
Not only do your donations provide for the work we do with the children, they also allow us to be the hands and feet on the ground here to do this work. As missionaries, we are literally dependent on your support for our own daily needs. We live as frugally as possible yet there are still basic needs such as food, electricity, and insurance that must be covered for us to be here. We are grateful for your support and will continue to be discerning and prayerful about all expenditures.
YOU ARE LIFTED UP HIGH!
Our greatest strength comes from our time spent in prayer. The children of Casa Hogar Elim continue to lift you up to God in prayers for your health and safety and we echo those prayers each day.
If we can pray for you in specific ways, please let us know. It would be our privilege. If you have additional questions or suggestions, we welcome them!
May God bless you and give you many opportunities to show His Love and Mercy and Grace to those around you!
